Our counselors are not in-network with any insurance providers. Some clients do choose to use their out of network benefits, which requires the client to submit a reimbursement request to their insurance company. Clients will need to check with their own insurance providers to determine the amount of reimbursement available. The counselors do not communicate with insurance companies. Feel free to ask your counselor more about the possibility of using out of network benefits. 

At New Hope, we believe that the relationship is the vehicle for change. We begin by establishing a trusting relationship with our clients, creating a safe environment for exploring difficult topics. Counselors help clients identify, process, and express emotions, which provides healing and agency. By pairing clinical wisdom with compassion, our counselors can also provide alternate perspectives that organically lead to a shift in thoughts, emotions, and choices. While each counselor has their own theoretical approach, we all work from the framework that emotional and relational healing happens in the context of a caring, supportive relationship. 

Counseling sessions last 50 minutes long. In early sessions, your counselor will be establishing trust and gathering information pertaining to the goals you want to address over the course of therapy. During your session, you can expect your counselor to ask you questions about the topics you are wanting to address. Your counselor will balance between following your lead and leading you to new places that can provide healing. Clients are welcome to check in with their counselor at any time to discuss goals and progress.

Every client has different needs and goals, which makes it difficult to determine how long someone might be in therapy. Therapy is most effective when it occurs regularly, such as weekly or every other week. You and your counselor can work together to determine when therapeutic goals have been met, but it is always up to you to decide when you would like to end ongoing sessions. Clients are never obligated to complete a certain number of sessions. 

We accept checks, cash, and cards. Our fully licensed counselor fees are $130 per session, and provisionally licensed counselors fees are $95 per session. The fee is due at the end of each session. 

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you will need to give your counselor at least 24 hours notice. Clients who do not show up for an appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full rate of the session. 

When you meet with your counselor individually, everything you share with your counselor will remain completely confidential, with the exception of safety concerns. Licensed counselors are mandated reporters and legally required to report harm, such as abuse or neglect, whether ongoing or in the past. If you share anything with your counselor that indicates physical or emotional harm is being done, or has been done, to you or someone else, your counselor may be required to take action to protect the person at risk, forgoing confidentiality.

Helping you find a counselor who is a good fit for you is important to us. Each of our counselors have biographies that will give you a sense of who they are and the kinds of topics they address. You are also welcome to reach out to any of our counselors directly and ask them any follow up questions about the services they provide. If you prefer a phone call, you are welcome to request that one of our counselors contact you by phone to answer your questions. You can also contact our intake coordinator, who can match you to one of our counselors based on your needs. It may take a handful of sessions with a particular counselor to determine goodness of fit. If you ever feel like your counselor is not a good fit for you, you are always welcome to discuss this with your therapist or meet with a different counselor.

While each counselor is different, most first sessions will have some similarities. Your counselor will give you an idea of what to expect over the course of treatment, such as explaining how confidentiality works and frequency of sessions. Your counselor will also ask for your reason for seeking counseling so he or she can focus on what is important to you. Through this process, your counselor is also establishing trust in order to help you feel comfortable enough to share the more painful parts of your story. At any time, you are welcome to ask your counselor questions about the counseling process.

Each of our counselors set up their own schedules. You are welcome to reach out to any of our counselors directly through the website to request a session. At the end of each counselor’s bio, you can click on the button, which will connect you to their email address. If you prefer to speak on the phone, each counselor also has a confidential voicemail number, where you can leave a voicemail for your counselor, and he or she will call you back at their convenience. Leaving a general time when you can be reached will increase the likelihood of connecting sooner rather than later. If you are not sure which counselor you want to see, you can also reach out to our intake coordinator by clicking on “request a session” at the top right of this page. The intake coordinator will then reach out to you and connect you with a specific counselor.

While counseling is helpful when you are in a crisis, our counselors are not “crisis counselors”. A crisis counselor is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to listen to you when you are in the middle of a crisis. Our counselors are available only during scheduled sessions, which last 50 minutes and occur either weekly or every other week, depending on when you are scheduled for an appointment. When you meet with your counselor, he or she can help you by processing the crisis with you and identifying healthy ways to cope with intense emotions and situations.
